STAGE SMARTS ONE: A SKILL BUILDER CLASS

Instructor: Cassandra Ferrigno
Give your acting skills a boost as you strengthen your basic understanding of stage and performance skills. Ms. Ferrigno uses an innovative approach to get students to understand how to create believable characters. It is motivating and challenging to young actors as they learn how to become versatile and “likeable” performers. Session will culminate with an in-class demonstration.

Ms. Ferrigno’s classes are designed to build and layer the actor’s understanding of good theatre. Exercises are meant to develop creative thinking skills and inspire young thespians to be the best they can be. Stage Smarts One is not a prerequisite. Find the perfect monologues for your auditions! Learn the important aspects of delivery and how to leave a lasting impression on the casting directors. Extremely beneficial for those wishing to enhance their acting skills.

BROADWAY HERE I COME

For our youngest musical theatre lovers, this course concentrates on the music from Broadway and is the perfect introduction to the melodies and stories that create the standing room only blockbusters of yesteryear. Acting and singing basics round out this fun-filled class. At the end of the session, an in-class demonstration is held for parents. Students may also appear in the Student Showcase on the stage of the Count Basie Theatre, March 30th.   

MUSICAL THEATRE FOR KIDS
6:30-7:30pm   Ages: 7-9   Fee: $170

For those who love musical theatre and the melodies from Broadway, this class is perfect for you. Students develop performance skills along with increased self-confidence and social skills. Students may also appear in the Student Showcase on the stage of the Count Basie Theatre, March 30th.   

MUSICAL THEATRE III
7:30-8:30pm   Ages: 10-14   Fee: $170

Curriculum includes theatre games, acting improvisation, as well as songs and dances with a Broadway flair. Each session concludes with an end of term in-class demonstration as well as the opportunity to appear in the Student Showcase on the stage of the Count Basie Theatre, March 30th.

JUNIOR BROADWAY VOCAL
5-6pm   Ages: 8-11   Fee: $170
Instructor: F. W. Browne
The early development of the ear (pitch training) and vocal chords can give you a major advantage in later life. In this class, children will use a series of physical and vocal exercises to learn proper breathing, posture, and basic vocal techniques; all designed to enhance singing, speaking and performing. Students may also appear in the Student Showcase on the stage of the Count Basie Theatre, March 30th. 

TEEN VOCAL WORKSHOP
6-7:30pm   Ages: 12-17   Fee: $255

Want a Tony or a Grammy? Fredi Walker-Browne, a Broadway performer (Original cast of RENT) teaches a series of physical and vocal exercises that enforce proper breathing, proper posture and singing technique created by genius, Joe Scott. Learn to increase vocal range and adjust to various singing styles: rock, pop, jazz and musical theatre. Class includes group harmonic singing with an emphasis on solo work and the development of “audition material”. Students have the opportunity to perform in the student showcase on March 30th.

SING IT - PLAY IT... A ROCK VOCAL WORKSHOP FOR MUSICIANS
5-6pm   Ages: 13 & up   Fee: $185
Instructor: Vincent Daniele
Learn "powerhouse" vocal techniques to give them the rock vocal "edge" in this class that is specifically geared towards mastering the techniques of combining vocals while playing your instrument. Develop a commanding stage presence, performance style and vocal range so important for rock singers. Learn to strengthen your voice and protect it from injuries. Students will perform in concert on stage of Count Basie Theatre.
Vincent Daniele: Singer/Musician/Producer/Writer, Vocals for Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny, Cheap Trick. Performed with Bruce Springsteen, Keith Richards, Peter Frampton.  Has recorded over 50 television and radio commercials.

Concert Date: Monday, March 22 at Count Basie Theatre
Are you a weekend guitar warrior? Then grab your axe of choice and join this 10-week course offered to adults of all ages in all instruments and skill levels. These master classes, by veteran pro/musicians (see bios) will run like professional tour rehearsals focusing on arrangements, performance and stage presentation finishing with a final full-length concert on the Count Basie Theatre stage. All instruments are welcome, whether you’re a guitarist currently taking private lessons looking to apply your skills in a band setting, or a trumpet player who hasn’t played since college who would love to get together with a section again. The material will cover a wide variety of musical styles, including classic rock, blues, country and jazz. An audition process will determine skill level and parts will be arranged not only to your present skill level, but designed to bring you to the next one.
Marc Muller – Marc is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, and is an accomplished musician, arranger, writer, and producer. As a musician (guitar, keyboard, bass, banjo, violin, drums), Marc has toured with Van Zant, Shania Twain, Tommy Shaw, Surreal McCoys and numerous others. He has performed and or recorded with Nickelback, Kelly Clarkson, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi, Branford Marsalis, Elton John, Carly Simon, John Waite, Dr. John, Blood Sweat and Tears and many more.
Vincent Daniele – Leader of the Jersey based “Cats on a Smooth Surface” –(house band at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park for many years) Vincent has performed/recorded with Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny, AC/DC, Peter Frampton, Keith Richards, The Smithereens and many more. In addition to “Cats....,”   Vincent is currently producing/writing and providing vocals for numerous TV/Radio commercials.

ACTING TECHNIQUES

Expand your acting prowess in this techniques class. All exercises are designed to give the actor the opportunity to improve his/her level of expertise and gain a deeper understanding of character analysis and scene study. Students may participate in Student Showcase on March 30th.
 
TAP LIKE A PRO
5:30-6:30pm   Ages: All   Fee: $170
Instructor: Tom Stanton
Dance is a must for all actors interested in musical theatre. Gain coordination and some dance techniques that will come in handy for auditions. Participants get the basics of tap and a good workout. More advanced dancers are equally challenged and afforded the opportunity to improve technique. A challenging class that is great fun for all.  

ACTORS FORUM... OPPORTUNITY TO MEET CASTING AGENTS
6:30-7:30pm   Ages: 11-16   Fee: $190
Instructor: Guil Fisher  
NYC-based Actor, Director, Educator; Guil Fisher offers students the opportunity to develop strong auditioning skills while gaining an understanding of the “business” of becoming an actor. Classes will focus on sight-reading scripts with artistic and creative energy, learning about what makes your individuality an asset, and methods of memorization. Session will culminate with individual interviews and feedback from NYC professional casting directors. A final class demonstration will be held for family and friends.   

ADULT ACTING FOR THE STAGE 
7:30-9:00pm   Ages: 17 to Adult   Fee: $285
Instructor: Guil Fisher
Course curriculum includes exercises based on the Stanislavski method and includes improvisation and scene work. Students will become part of an ensemble group of artists with one thing in common – good theatre. Mr. Fisher incorporates the philosophies of one of his earliest teachers, Sanford Meisner (a leading acting teacher who trained some of the most famous performers of the stage and screen.) At the end of the 10-week course, students will present scenes or a one-act play to invited friends, family and industry professionals.  “Teaching an actor is teaching them... to teach themselves. To do this they must learn about themselves and share that part of their creative sources with each other.”  --Guil Fisher

IN THE WINGS... A MUSICAL THEATRE CLASS FOR KIDS

The class will include improv techniques, as well as songs and scenes from Broadway musicals. Students will increase their understanding of performance techniques and the importance of teamwork. Students have fun, hone their craft, increase their self-confidence and gain life skills all under the guidance of a nurturing professional educator and actress.

THE CRAFT OF ACTING

What does it take to land the role of your dreams? How can you make the casting director notice you and the critics love you? Ms.Taylor's class structure is designed to bring out the best in every actor. Students will gain an understanding of how to critique as well as how to perform.

MUSICAL THEATRE TROUPE

Our performance troupe focuses on musical theatre this session. Class will work on a musical theatre revue to take to senior citizen residence facilities and also libraries. Be prepared to sing, dance and cold read for your audition (those auditioning do not need a monologue). Singers who move well and can pick up choreography are what we are seeking this time.

SWING DANCE BEGINNER: LEVEL 1 CRASH CLASS

This class is for beginners who wish to start swingin’ on the social dance floor. The focus is Swing and the music to accompany us will be none other than Count Basie’s. This class starts with all the basics you need to know to get you started; from lead and follow techniques to fancy turns and passes. Can also challenge those with some partner dance experience. Class series is progressive.

SWING/LINDY: LEVEL 2 CRASH CLASS

The focus of this partner dance class is Swing (Lindy) for those with some experience.  Explore new patterns and interesting variations on Swing.  Learn to be a stronger leader and a better follower.  The course is progressive and becomes more challenging as the weeks move on.

KIDS ON CAMERA

Have fun while learning to perform on camera. Gain confidence while learning to improve your acting and speaking skills. Learn do’s and don’t of acting in commercials and film. Class activities are designed to motivate and stimulate the imagination. A DVD of class work and scenes will be given to each student at completion of 10-week session.

ACTING FOR THE CAMERA
5-6pm   Ages: 9-11   Fee: $170
Instructor: Megan Sambataro Donovan
Learn the craft of acting on camera. Explore the types of shots and camera techniques that are used in today’s acting industry and become familiar with the “language” that is used on the set and the director’s expectations. Students will work on camera and have the opportunity to self-critique. 

THE TV AND FILM ACTOR

Hone those acting skills by learning the foundational skills and techniques needed to land that commercial audition or get cast in a sitcom, soap or film. Working with actual scripts from TV/Film, students will learn how to make strong choices, analyze scripts and develop believable performances.

WEEKEND MUSICAL THEATRE FOR KIDS

Whether you are a seasoned performer or a newcomer to the magic of Broadway musicals, this class will get your creative juices flowing and ignite your enthusiasm.  The perfect place to hone your performing skills and stage techniques.


ROCKIT! FOR KIDS... A ROCK BAND PROGRAM 
THURSDAYS, FRIDAYS, SATURDAYS
Ages: 8-16   Fees: Audition - $10 (due with application)
Program: $290 (includes $10 registration fee)

Acceptance and placement through audition.
NOTE: The 2010 Rockit! For Kids sessions will now offer an expanded class rehearsal time in preparation for the big concert. In light of the current economic crunch many families are experiencing, there will not be a tuition increase for the winter session. Rockit! For Kids will be performing the ultimate classic/anthem rock, pop, prog and metal songs of all time for this concert.
Vocalists, drummers, guitarists, bass guitarists, keyboardists, brass and string players are encouraged to complement their private studies with our live program. This program gives young musicians an instant opportunity to play Rock and Roll with their peers, bringing them together to perform live as a band and experience the dynamics of working together to achieve a common goal. All bands classes are 55 minutes long and taught by qualified instructors. After the initial audition (and orientation class) the musicians will be divided into bands and for the next 6 weeks each band will rehearse. Additionally, Rockit! offers skill-building and performance enhancement classes on Thursdays. This training program offers an opportunity to those not yet ready to perform in the culminating concert to work in a band and to develop the necessary skills and techniques to take their musicianship to the next level.  
AUDITION AND PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
All students must be currently studying with an instructor and/or have a good musical knowledge of their instrument. All students must perform a two-minute selection that best represents their style and ability. Vocalists may audition with a karaoke CD, musical accompaniment or sing acapella. Singing along with a prerecorded CD with vocals is not permitted. All other musicians may audition with live or CD accompaniment, or solo. Students are expected to bring their own guitars, drumsticks, brass and string instruments. All other equipment is provided. Students must attend all rehearsals unless extenuating circumstances should occur and all students must perform in the end of semester concert.

The focus of this partner dance class is Salsa and Mambo. Explore how to express yourself to the fabulous rhythm of Salsa through body movements, styling and technique for leading and following. Designed for beginners and gets progressively more involving. Can challenge those with some dance experience as well. 

Paolo Lanna – Paolo has been specializing in partner dances since 1995.  He has toured with Wynton Marsalis and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, as well as “Swing Dance America” and “Forever Swing” the Big Band Musical Revue that featured Michael Buble’. He has appeared on several Television/Film programs from CNBC’s Great Stuff to the David Letterman show demonstrating the Lindy Hop. He continues to hone his knowledge and skills of these classic American dances by teaching and performing internationally. Paolo is co-founder of events as the Summer Jamboree Dance Camp in Italy, Central Park Swings and Swing Remix.

The Inside Track Workshops for Screenwriting is back. Over one evening and two days, explore the process of getting your vision to the screen in this expanded, intensive weekend session. Mr. Fox's valuable insight into the process of screenwriting has helped many writers find their place in the biz".  Learn how to find your story, write your screenplay, create a pitch and then connect into the Hollywood system in this fascinating weekend session. Many graduates of The Inside Track have already done so, and now you can too.

Peter Fox - Peter began his career as a Story Analyst at major Hollywood Studios.  He founded the Inside Track Workshops and has helped hundreds of novice and experienced screenwriters develop their skills and provide them with the tools to present their work as only a true Hollywood insider can.
