Join writer, producer, director, actor and Monmouth County native Kevin Smith on his 40th birthday for a no-holds-barred evening of questions and answers. Clever, but profane and spiked with pop-culture references, Smith’s scripts have been described as, “David Mamet meets Howard Stern.” His films include Clerks (1994), Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), Jersey Girl (2004), Clerks II (2006) and Zack and Miri Make A Porno (2008). He’s won the Sundance Filmmakers Trophy, the Independent Spirit Award for Best Screenplay, and an 8-minute standing ovation at Cannes. A limited number of Gold Circle tickets to benefit the Count Basie Theatre’s restoration will be sold, including a post-event meet-and-greet with Kevin.

**This evening will be filmed for television! Be part of the action!**

If ever the words "living legend" were more than just public relations bluster, the application would be to Willie Hugh Nelson. The iconic Texan is the creative genius behind historic recordings like "Crazy," "Hello Walls," “Red Headed Stranger” and “Stardust.” His career has spanned six decades. His catalog boasts more than 200 albums. He's earned every conceivable award and honor to be bestowed a person in his profession. He has also amassed reputable credentials as an author, actor and activist. In many ways, however, the weighty distinction "living legend" does Nelson a disservice, for it discounts the extent to which he is a thriving, relevant and progressive musical force in the year 2004. He has released two new albums, recently embarked on an imaginative tour with a fellow musical icon, again headlined Farm Aid, has established himself as a top television ratings draw, has a recent No. 1 single and a Super Bowl performance under his belt.

Tickets to trumpeter Chris Botti's last Basie appearance were so hot we had to have him back. Since his 1995 debut release, he has satisfied the desire of adult music lovers everywhere for the sound of classic romantic jazz. Rex Reed called him, “The sexiest trumpeter since Chet Baker.” Botti and Sting’s recording of “What Are You Doing For The Rest Of Your Life?” won the 2006 Grammy for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). About Will Ackerman:
Universally recognized as the preeminent pioneer in the new age music movement, and the founder of Windham Hill Records, Will Ackerman’s career spans more than three decades of remarkable vision, single-minded determination, fervent business savvy, and “a thorough love of the mystery of making music.” The glory years at Windham Hill with Ackerman at the helm launched the recording careers of an abundant list of acoustic instrumentalists, many of who became household names, such as Michael Hedges and George Winston. The primary influence Windham Hill cast on contemporary music over the last three decades of the 20th century emanated from folk roots, the acoustic guitar, and the piano. This legacy remains with Ackerman in a uniquely prolific and peerless career. Learn more at http://www.williamackerman.com/

Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo

Tickets: $99, $62, $52, $42

The leading female rock vocalist of the 1980’s, Pat Benatar is a certified rock and roll superstar, a 9-time Grammy nominee with an unprecedented four Grammy Awards in a row for Best Rock Performance (Female), and 7 platinum and 3 gold albums to her credit. With her husband of 28 years Neil Giraldo on guitar, hit singles such as "I Need A Lover," "Heartbreaker," "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Hell Is For Children," “We Live for Love,” and “Love Is A Battlefield” became anthems for a new attitude. She was, and still is, bold, self-assured and independent; alluring but not self-exploitive; vulnerable but not weak; strong-minded without being hard hearted. She blazed a trail for female rock, not pop, stars that broke all the rules, and that fire still blazes on the concert stage. Her biography, Between a Heart and a Rock Place, will be released this June.
